About Our Book

As America’s # 1 Gold Coin Expert for 50 years, I decided to write a book comparing the pros and cons of Gold to the allegedly new form of money: Bitcoin. To be honest, I began my research on Bitcoin with a bias toward Gold. After all, Gold has been a store of value, real money and a part of history for thousands of years. Whereas Bitcoin has only been around for 15 years. I’ve loved Gold Coins all my life.

In this book you will learn about both Bitcoin and Gold. Often confusing, Bitcoin is a digital currency with its own language. Terms like “blockchain,” “public and private keys” and even “cryptocurrency” are new and unfamiliar concepts. In “GOLD vs BITCOIN” I put everything into perspective. How Bitcoin works. Its potential risks and rewards. And most importantly how it can fit into your life and your finances. If the value of Bitcoin can fluctuate from $20,000 to $60,000 in a matter of days, weeks or months, how stable or safe is it? Is this just "growing pains"? Or is Bitcoin nothing more than a fad or a Ponzi scheme? After all, you can’t create a wedding ring or a Pharaoh’s mask from Bitcoin. In fact, Bitcoin does not even exist as a three-dimensional object.

In this book you will also learn about Bullion Gold Coins vs Rare or “Numismatic” Gold Coins. Since the 1970’s I’ve been researching and dealing in U.S. (and foreign) Gold Coins minted from 1795 to the present. At Deak-Perera, once America’s oldest and largest foreign exchange firm, I was the Numismatic Director from 1974 to 1976. We sold millions of dollars worth of Gold South African Krugerrands, Mexican 50-Pesos, British Sovereigns and Australian 100-Coronas to investors as Gold began to jump from $35 an ounce to $1,000 an ounce. As an independent dealer, I’ve also recommended and sold millions of dollars worth of numismatic Gold Coins. Everything from 1795-1804 $5 and $10 Gold Eagles and Half Eagles to Pac Pacific Commemorative Gold Sets in their original leather cases. Also, $2-1/2, $5 and $10 Liberty and Indian Gold Coins from PCGS MS-64 to MS-68. High Relief $20 Gold St. Gaudens Double Eagles, $3 U.S. Gold Coins and $4 Gold “Stellas.” You name it. I’ve seen it.

In 1988, I assembled and auctioned the “Amazing Gold Rarities" collection of U.S. Gold Coins with Stack’s in the Grand Ballroom of The Plaza Hotel in New York. Legendary U.S. Gold Coin expert David W. Akers worked closely with me on this incredible undertaking. Twenty-five years ago the collection sold for $3 million and contained some of the most important, rarest and finest known coins. Today, these coins are worth more than $30 million. Will this trend continue? Will my clients cash in on the future price of Gold and the increasing interest in rare Gold Coins. I also tell you how to avoid overpaying or getting ripped off in the "tricky" Gold and Rare Coin market.
