LES AND SUE FOX - EAGLES OF AMERICA
|
Les and Sue Fox are the New York Times bestselling authors of "Silver Dollar Fortune-Telling," "The U.S. Rare Coin Handbook" and "The Beanie Baby Handbook." They have been married for 39 years, and business partners since 1977. The Foxes are currently writing a new book titled "The Gold Coinage of Augustus Saint Gaudens" which will be published in 2008. The next edition of their coin handbook will be illustrated with EOA / Upper Deck Rare Coin Trading Cards.
Les has been an avid coin collector since 1957 (age 10). In 1969, while working for the New York Port Authority as a Trade Development Agent, he launched his first rare coin business as Fox Coin Portfolios featuring the revolutionary new concept of "Gem Quality U.S. Rare Coins For Investment." From 1974 to 1976, the Foxes managed the Numismatic Division of Deak-Perera, one of the largest foreign exchange banks in the world. Located on Fifth Avenue in Rockefeller Center in the heart of New York City, this was an exciting time in numismatics as gold bullion was officially re-legalized by President Gerald R. Ford in 1974, and America's 1976 Bicentennial coins were issued to commemorate the nation's 200th birthday.
The Foxes operated the Perera Fifth Avenue Silver Dollar Club, which they later purchased when they went into business as Carson City Associates. The club was promoted with lavish window displays throughout Rockefeller Center, as well as in The Plaza Hotel and The Hotel Pierre. While at Perera, Les became close friends with the late Jim Blanchard, the famous "gold bug" and President of the National Committee For Monetary Reform. In 1975, Les taught Jim the rare coin business and supplied him with millions of dollars worth of rare coins. Today, the Foxes are primarily educators and promoters of rare coins and American art. They have worked in cooperation with many coin dealers, as well as PCGS, NGC, Coin World and The American Numismatic Association, to bring bring new collectors into the hobby, and to increase customers and sales for coin dealers around the country.
The Foxes have an exclusive autograph agreement with America's Bicentennial Coin artists, Jack L. Ahr (79), Seth G. Huntington (88) and Dennis R. Williams (54), and other coin artists. Dealer Inquiries Welcome. They are the only coin dealers to enter into autographed coin programs with two U.S. Presidents, Gerald R. Ford and George H.W. Bush. The Foxes also helped launch the PCGS autographed coin program with PCGS Vice President, Miles Standish (shown below.)
On October 5, 1988, Les and Sue auctioned the multi-million dollar Amazing Gold Rarities coin collection, which they had formed for a group of 75 investors. The A.G.R. collection was sold by Stack's in the Grand Ballroom of The Plaza Hotel in New York, just across the street from Augustus St. Gaudens' famous statue of General Sherman at the 59th Street entrance to Central Park. This coin collection featured hundreds of Finest Known examples of rare U.S. Gold Coins, including many coins from the Eliasberg, Garrett and other famous collections, personally cataloged for the Foxes by David Akers, the foremost authority on U.S. Gold Coins.
